We are expecting babies!!!! Lots of Babies :) 4 years ago for Valentines Day I told my hubby that I wanted a Boston Terrier as my V Day surprise, so we ventured out to Covington GA to pick up our little 4 legged bundle of joy. He was the last one there and looked awfully lonely :( I didn't really want him when I saw him because he only had 1 black ear instead of two LOL. Kinda shallow huh?! I picked him up and snuggled him anyway and fell in love! He nestled his little snout into my neck and I took one wif of that puppy breath and from there it was OVER folks, I knew I had to had him!! We got his records and paper's etc. and headed for home to surprise the boys.. We talked back and forth about names and since my boys are big WWE fans we knew without a doubt we had agreed on the best name for him... John Cena!! (World heavy weight champion @ the time) Mostly we just call him Cena.... Or Cena Bo Beana, but his papers say John Cena. The boys were elated when they saw him and fought over who got to hold him first. He slept in the bed with us and to our surprise slept ALL night!! He is very active and loves to play fetch! Give him a ball and be prepared to play for hours!! He loves car rides, walks around the hood and getting in the pool. He loves everyone he has met so far and is very social. There have only been a few people Cena hasn't liked & has made it clear LOL... It's all part of his personality and I'm not gonna hold it against him, after all who can argue with an animal's instinct right?! As a fru fru mom, I love to dress my poochies and there again to my suprise.... He loves it too. John Cena has 2 or 3 football jerseys, a rain coat a few tee shirts and some hoodies. He looks so handsome in everything he wears and gets compliments everywhere he goes.
Due to the growing number of friends that have offered me money for him, or made jokes about stealing him LOL, Jeremy and I thought.... Hmmmmm..... If we can breed him we can be rich LOL!! (not really rich but the $ doesn't hurt for full breeds) So we started looking for a female.
One November 29th we set out for Lithonia to pick out our 2nd 4 legged baby... We took Bo Beana with us because we were hoping he would wink at the one he wanted LOL. When we got there we were a bit overwhelmed... Much unlike the 1st time... This time there were PLENTY of puppies to choose from... 8 I think. We were the 1st to arrive and had the pick of the liter. Much to our dismay Cena was not in the mood to pick out the hottest chick. He was hiding in the corner trying to get away from the herd of puppies that started following him and trying to nurse him LOL... A memory Jeremy and I still laugh about to this day LOL. That poor little man was mortified!! The puppies had traveled the day before (Thanksgiving) from Jersey where they had to leave their mom behind. The breeder could not take care of them so he sent them with his sister who lives in GA. Not important info I guess but we thought it was pretty cool to have a southern baby and a northern baby. The one that we picked was the ONLY one that would have absolutely NOTHING to do with us LOL... She ran and hid under the table and started yelping when I picked her up. I guess the chase is what set her apart from all the rest. This made me want her even more. A love that has to be earned!! The lady selling them told me that she was the unsociable one but every ones favorite... I can dig it :) "Where's her Papers?" That was that and off we went. Cena was very jealous of the new baby and did not like the fact that mama was kissing on another baby all the way home. I got ignored for the next week LOL.. I tried to give him more attention to make up for the new addition but he was NOT hearing it... He started laying on the floor and refused to get on the couch with me. Poor little man. Oh well, he eventually got over it. We decided that again because of WWE, we would name her Diva and a diva she is :) Very prissy and dainty and ATTITUDE... Whew that girl has attitude! She is not as sociable as Cena but she never has been. That's just her personality. She is however VERY loyal and LOVES her family to pieces. She is a snuggle bunny and will let you cradle her like a baby, dress her up, dance around with her or whatever you wanna do.. As long as she is being held.. She's mush! Diva refuses to play catch, after all that's for dogs, not diva's!! She has never chewed up anything.. Not even as a puppy. Apparently that too would be dog like :) You definitely have to earn her affection but once you do it's hard to get enough.
Anyway enough about all of that.... Our little Diva girl is pregnant and due in 2 weeks!! Very exciting!! They are both registered and current on all shots. The puppies will be AKC which is the most recognized organization for full breeds. They are due on May 3rd and will be weaned around mid June. Most Boston's sell on line and in the papers for anywhere between $500.00 to $1,000.00. Our little bundle's of Joy are priced at $450.00 as long as there are no complications in pregnancy. If she has to have a C-Section (common for BT's) the price will go up. They are going fast so in order to hold a puppy there will be a deposit of $100.00... $50.00 refundable if you change your mind. Of course that will come with a notarized contract. Friend or not, it is first come first serve. I don't want to hurt feelings but I've had a lot of people ask me to hold one and I'm afraid if I do that and people change their mind, we will be stuck at the last minute trying to sell them. I have had several people express their interest in buying a puppy which is why I am writing this blog. Before you make your decision, take some time to read the facts about them (below)
*Boston Terriers need to be kept in doors for the majority of the time. Boston's were originally a cross breed with Old English Bulldogs so much like the bulldog, their snout is very short and it is hard for them to breath at times. They get over heated very easy and if left outside too long can die form heat exhaustion. If you do not plan on keeping your Boston indoors do not buy one!!!
*Boston's snore when they sleep :) They also snort when they get excited! This is also attributed to the short snouts. It's one of my favorite things about them. I think it's cute, but some people can't stand it.
*Boston's LOVE kids and LOVE attention. A friend of mine recently said that while looking on the Internet, she typed in, "best dog for kids" and the Boston Terrier was the first one to pop up. I have no doubt that is true. My Boston's absolutely adore my children and are very patient and loving towards kids.
*Boston's have a very big bark LOL... They might be small but they are not yappers!! When they bark, you almost wanna take a double look because they sound so big. Their bark is deep for their size.
Okay... Below is a little bit of their history pulled from the Internet.
The Boston Terrier can trace its history back to 1865, in Boston, Massachusetts. At this time pit fighting between dogs was still a popular form of entertainment. There were a number of breeds of dogs that had their start in the fighting pit, and the Boston Terrier is no exception. The Boston Terrier of 1865 is not the dog we know today.
By 1891, the Boston Terrier was an established breed of dog. By this we mean that the Boston Terrier was reproducing true to its form. Offspring were consistently looking like their sire and dam. Forty breeders decided to form the American Bull terrier Club in Boston, and applied to the American Kennel Club for membership status. There were many objections raised due to the Boston Terrier not looking anything like a Bull terrier. Finally, a noted writer and authority, James Watson, suggested that since this new breed did not resemble the Bull terrier, that the dog should have its own identity. He felt that this dog having been bred in and around Boston, it should be named the Boston Terrier. So the club changed its name to the Boston Terrier Club and in 1893 it was admitted to membership in the A.K.C.
If we advance the years to the early 1900's, we still can find Boston Terriers being shown in the Conformation Ring weighing around 30 pounds. However, in the 1920's breeders started to pay more attention to the markings on the body, and the body proportions. Pit fighting, for the most part, was illegal in most states, and its popularity was dwindling. So the breeders started looking at the dog as a companion. Remember that these dogs already had a reputation for having a notable devotion to their masters and family. By the 1950's the Boston Terrier was very much like the dog we know today. For show purposes, there are three weight classes that pertain to the Boston - they are light (under 15 lbs.), middle (under 20 lbs.), and heavy-weight (under 25 lbs.).
The Boston Terrier is a lively and highly intelligent breed. Boston Terriers have strong, friendly personalities. Bostons can range in temperaments from those that are eager to please their master to those that are more stubborn. Both can be easily trained given a patient and assertive owner. While originally bred for fighting, they were later down bred for companionship. The modern Boston Terrier can be gentle, alert, expressive, and well-mannered. They were originally a cross-breed between the Old English Bulldog and the English Bull Terrier.
Due to the Boston Terrier's markings resembling formal wear, in addition to its refined and pleasant personality, the breed is commonly referred to as the "American Gentleman."
The Boston Terrier is characteristically marked with white in proportion to either black, brindle, seal, or a combination of the three. Seal is a color specifically used to describe Boston Terriers and is defined as a black color with red highlights when viewed in the sun or bright light. Black, Brindle, and Seal (all on white) are the only colors recognized by the AKC. There are also liver, brown, cream or red and white Boston Terriers, however these marking are more rare than the others listed above, and are disqualified from AKC events. If all other qualities are identical, brindle is the preferred color according to most breed standards.
According to international breed standard, the dog should weigh no less than 10 pounds and no more than 25 pounds.
The body is rather short and well knit, the limbs strong and neatly turned, the tail is short and no feature is so prominent that the dog appears badly proportioned. The dog conveys an impression of determination, strength and activity, with style of a high order; carriage easy and graceful. A proportionate combination of "Color and White Markings" is a particularly distinctive feature of a representative specimen.
Thanks for taking the time to read this long and winded story :) If you decide that a Boston Terrier would make a good addition to your family please contact me.
